My New Favorite Running App

….and My Story Runs On….

(I started writing this while I was on vacation in the midwest.  Just got back last night)

As you may know, I’ve been gallivanting around the midwest for the last week and a half.  I have found the scenery here so different and refreshing from the AZ desert.  We are now in Cincinnati for the Toastmasters World Convention (I’ve been in Toastmasters for the last 8 years and if you don’t know what it is, click on the link because it’s changed my life too!).

Anyways, we had a few free hours and I really wanted to find a trail that I could run for at least 30 minutes, just to get my fix.  I was using google maps, and tried Map My Run but couldn’t find anything. Then, I thought, let me check the Apple store on my phone and “google” trail.  Tah, dah!  I found an awesome app to use.  I wanted to share it with you because it really helped me find a cool trail.

It’s called All Trails and it’s for Iphones and Droids.  Check it out!  I just liked their facebook page too.

We found this trail that was close to the hotel. It’s called the England/Idlewild Park in Boone County, KY.   Here are some pictures I took:

Running has helped me appreciate first time experiences , getting out of my comfort zone and trying the unknown.  This app helped me do what I love in a new place.  How cool!

I used it again when we drove back into AZ. I wanted to run somewhere near Payson before we hit the desert.  The app reminded me of the Tonto National Bridge.  We did a steep hike there.  The hardest part for me was my fear of heights.  My heart was racing most of the time.  My boyfriend kept saying, use your Chi but I was resisting it for sure.  The only thing that kept me going was to purposely get outside of my comfort zone…..and it was well worth the effort!  The pictures don’t do it justice.

Have you purposely stepped outside your comfort zone?  Why?  What did you learn?

Here are some more photos:

Thanks again to All Trails!  I can’t wait until I’m out of town again to see what new running adventure I can have next…I think I’m going to start looking into this destination racing more. 🙂

From My Running Story to Yours….
(if you feel inspired to share your comments, do so below…I want to hear your story too!)

Have you purposely stepped outside your comfort zone?  Why?  What did you learn from that experience?
